Storms can do a number on your water heater - and most people don't realize it until they're standing in a cold shower. Power surges and outages put serious stress on the heating elements inside electric water heaters. When those elements blow, you lose hot water completely.

That charred, corroded element you're looking at is a perfect example of what storm damage actually looks like up close. The blackening, the rust buildup, the deterioration along the prongs - that's not normal wear. That's a failed element. And it happens more often than you'd think after a rough storm rolls through.

Here's the thing: a blown element doesn't always mean you need a whole new water heater. In a lot of cases, we can swap out the bad element, test the unit, and get you back to hot water without a full replacement. It's one of those repairs that sounds intimidating but is usually pretty straightforward when you catch it early.

That's exactly why regular maintenance matters. When we check your water heater on a routine basis, we're looking at the condition of the elements, the anode rod, connections, and more. Catching early corrosion or wear before it fails completely saves you time, money, and the headache of an unexpected cold-water situation.

If you've lost hot water after a recent storm - or if you honestly can't remember the last time anyone looked at your water heater - it's worth getting a set of eyes on it. Small issues don't stay small for long.
